Have you ever been craving a certain kind of story?

I have been experiencing that feeling quite a lot lately. I haven’t read a book of late that I have really been able to get into. As some of you might be able to tell from my recent book reviews I have been on a vampire kick. (for whatever reason…)

One day while trying to find something to ease my reading need I stumbled across… Lailah by Nikki Kelly. This is the first book of her Styclar Saga (have you ever noticed that often when an author titles a saga, it has nothing to do with the book?)…Anyways…

The girl knows she’s different. She doesn’t age. She has no family. She has visions of a past life, but no clear clues as to what she is, or where she comes from. But there is a face in her dreams – a light that breaks through the darkness. She knows his name is Gabriel.

On her way home from work, the girl encounters an injured stranger whose name is Jonah. Soon, she will understand that Jonah belongs to a generation of Vampires that serve darker forces. Jonah and the few like him are fighting with help from an unlikely ally, a rogue Angel named Gabriel.

In the crossfire between good and evil, love and hate, and life and death, the girl learns her name: Lailah. But when the lines between black and white begin to blur, where in the spectrum will she find her place? And with whom?

Gabriel and Jonah both want to protect her. But Lailah will have to fight her own battle to find out who she truly is.

Now, I have to say that this book is not an award winning story. But I found it quite cute for light summer reading.  The relationships are complicated and steeped with flashbacks and history. The dynamics of the characters I have to say are my favorite part of this book. (Plus it helps that it incorporates multiple sci-fi characteristics, like vampires, angles and more.)  I am a sucker for a good thriller that combines a love triangle and a dash of mystery.

Overall, I just wanted to pop a blog post put to let everyone know what I have been reading. What’s on your summer reading list?
